Cherries, honeydew, couscous salad with feta and broccoli, savory muffin
The kid is turning into a bread fiend. I don’t know if it’s my presence (during the week I’m not around for lunch or dinner), the early hour, or something I’m doing wrong, but he’s refusing stuff that he happily ate last week. He eats all of it when Shannon’s feeding him.
(And actually, Shannon’s presence makes a difference. She went out for a run while I was unsuccessfully trying to sneak melon into his gob, and for the few minutes she stood in the kitchen doorway, stretching, he stared at her entranced and grinning and opened his mouth for anything I put near it. But as soon as she left he went back to pulling food out of his mouth and flicking it on the floor.)
So I caved and toasted a savory muffin from a batch I’d made earlier in the week. It has barely any sugar, just a tablespoon spread out over a dozen muffins, but I still feel guilty when he has one. Anyway, he loved it and I ended breakfast as I often do these days, eating ground-up vegetables with a baby spoon.
